Road & Rail Services is hiring an experienced Railroad Carman to support our Paris, Kentucky operation. This is a hands-on mechanical position for someone with welding, metal fabrication, and railcar repair skills.
The ideal candidate will be dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working independently in an outdoor industrial environment. If you take pride in quality work and are looking for a company with long-term growth opportunities, this could be a strong fit.
What You'll Do
As a Railroad Carman, you will inspect, maintain, and repair railcars using welding equipment, cutting torches, fabrication tools, and basic hand tools. You will be expected to identify mechanical concerns and complete repairs safely and accurately.
Your responsibilities may include:
• Performing stick welding and metal fabrication
• Using cutting torches, grinders, wrenches, ratchets, and other hand tools
• Inspecting railcars and identifying needed repairs
• Opening and closing railcar end doors during service work
You will also follow all company, customer, and industry safety procedures while keeping tools and work areas organized.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with a strong mechanical background and previous experience in welding or fabrication. Railcar experience is helpful, but candidates with related industrial or heavy mechanical experience may also be considered.
Preferred qualifications include:
• Experience with metal fabrication and cutting torches
• Stick welding experience
• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
A valid state driver's license may be required to operate company vehicles or equipment.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding outdoor position. Employees must be able to work safely around rail equipment and remain active throughout the shift.
You must be able to:
• Bend, squat, twist, walk, and stand throughout the workday
• Push or pull heavy railcar doors using significant force
• Climb ladders and work at heights exceeding 16 feet
• Work outdoors in heat, cold, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions
