We are looking for a Transport Maintenance Crew Chief for the Paris District located in Lamar County, Paris, TX.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities.
  • Assist in administration of the maintenance section and report to the section supervisor.
  • Respond to emergency notifications as needed and contact private entities.
  • Assist during accidents and emergency weather situations (sand bridges, roads, warning signs) and organize crew response.
  • Estimate and gather materials and equipment necessary for assignments.
  • Inspect roads en route to and from job sites and report problems to supervisors.
  • Maintain records on materials and equipment used and employee timesheets.
  • Operate light and heavy equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and repair on equipment and train crew members on equipment use.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School graduate or equivalent in general education.
  • Experience:

    5 years of roadway maintenance–related work (full‑time or prorated part‑time). College education or relevant technical training may substitute one year of experience per year.
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Valid driver’s license; must obtain or already hold a Class "A" Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 180 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
  • Understanding of The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Incident management procedures.
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specifications.
  • Operating light and heavy highway equipment.
  • Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others.
  • Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Prioritizing and organizing work assignments.
  • Interpreting applicable information.
  • Training in classroom, office, or field environments.
  • Using hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices.
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32°F or above 100°F for over an hour.
  • Required to wear protective gear—respirator, hard hat, or other device.
  • Medium work:
    Lift up to 50 lbs at a time; frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Balancing—walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling.
  • Stooping—bending body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.
  • Crouching—bending lower body and spine.
  • Standing—prolonged periods.
  • Walking—moving on foot for long distances from one site to another.
  • Visual acuity—operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
  • Physically demanding; pre‑employment physical required.
  • Must pass a drug test and be subject to random drug testing. Medical marijuana is not accepted.
  • Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24‑hour basis.
