Overview
The Opportunity:
Avantor is seeking a Material Handler for the Paris, KY site. This is a day shift, Monday - Thursday (A shift), 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The Material Handler works under limited supervision and is responsible for receiving, handling, preparation, storage, and inventory of finished goods and raw materials using a variety of tools and equipment. Ensures timeliness and accuracy in receiving, delivery and preparation of materials.
Reports to the department supervisor or designate.
- Receive and verify materials (raw materials, intermediates, supplies, returned goods and samples) and report discrepancies.
- Monitor and maintain inventory, storage and warehousing for designated areas.
- Transfer and/or issue requested materials to appropriate areas; prepare materials for shipment as applicable.
- Unload inbound shipments, inspect for damage, infestation, or production date codes; sign for inbound shipments when necessary; store safely.
- Perform order picking with correct product number, quantity, lot/batch/serial numbers; transport orders to shipping locations using equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.).
- Label, stencil, tag, mark, band, bundle, wrap, over-pack, and palletize as required; maintain equipment; comply with OSHA standards.
- Keep accurate inventory records and assist in physical inventories and cycle counts; may input adjustments in the computer.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED; OSHA forklift and HAZMAT certification is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to work in an environment with noise and potential hazards; comfortable working shifts and changing priorities.
- Familiar with warehouse systems (SAP); computer skills a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to read SOPs and regulations; ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Mathematical skills: basic arithmetic, units of measure; understanding of metric system is beneficial.
- Reasoning ability: ability to follow instructions and solve problems with a few concrete variables.
- Physical: ability to stand/walk for long periods; ability to work at heights; vision requirements as described; ability to lift up to 75 pounds with or without assistance.
The work is performed in an industrial warehouse environment with noise; exposure to varying temperatures, dust, fumes or gases. May require working at heights and driving equipment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
