Job Description
Summary:
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the anesthesia needs of patients undergoing obstetrical, surgical and/or invasive procedures. A CRNA will work under the leadership and management of the Board Runners and the Director of Nurse Anesthesia. It is anticipated that each CRNA will make decisions that require expert clinical judgment and will do so in collaboration with physicians, patients, patient families, and other departments.
Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
Lead CRNA designation is based on availability of a slot at a site requiring a CRNA lead as well as successful orientation and endorsement by current board runners. This position requires signficant multitasking, organization, and people skills to manage the daily workflow of the anesthesia department by maximizing efficiency and optimizing available staffing resources.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintain a positive work environment and contribute to the overall team effort of the department and hospital.
Greet guests in accordance to our Guest Excellence principles.
Follow practice guidelines set forth by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).Assemble and check all needed equipment prior to patient’s arrival to surgical suite.
Interview patient prior to procedure regarding pertinent health and past anesthesia history as well as perform a physical assessment as indicated.
Review health assessment data and medication history with consideration toward potential interaction with anesthetic agents. Determine and assign anesthesia class (ASA physical status) based on this assessment.
Plan method and choice of anesthetic agents to be used based on pre-anesthesia assessment, and review such plan with patient and anesthesiologist/supervising physician as necessary.
Review chart for completeness and any new data. Document accurately in the electronic medical record throughout the case.
Communicate with the anesthesiologist, supervising physician, and/or surgeon regarding any existing or potential problems associated with or encountered with the anesthetic.
Monitor pre-induction as well as intra-operative vital signs to include cardiac and respiratory parameters.
Administer general, spinal, epidural and other regional anesthesia as appropriate.
Modify anesthesia level and drug delivery as needed based on patient’s status and progress of procedure. Keep surgeon, operating room team, and anesthesiologist/supervising physician notified of any changes in patient’s status.
Monitor vital functions during postoperative transfer of care and provides a detailed report of the patient to the receiving nurse upon arrival in PACU, ICU or otherwise.
Contribute to the department initiative of reassessing patient within 48 hours postoperatively for any anesthesia related complications per CMS standards.
Supervise anesthesia technicians’ setup and stocking of anesthesia areas of responsibility.
Perform related responsibilities as required or directed.
Maintain clinical competence through continuing education. Assume responsibility for insuring continued professional growth.

EDUCATION:
Is skillful and proficient in the principles, concepts, and techniques of both the nursing and anesthesia professions.
Proficiency will be acquired through successful completion of a nurse anesthesia educational program that is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational program or its predecessor.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
Current licensure as a registered nurse and as an advanced practice nurse in the State of Tennessee Certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the NBCRNA, National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse AnesthetistsACLS, BLS, PALS
