The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in overseeing daily operations on construction sites, ensuring that projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. This role involves coordinating activities, supervising subcontractors and laborers, managing resources, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining communication between the project team, clients, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Site Supervision- Assist the Superintendent in managing all on-site activities, ensuring that daily operations run smoothly.
- Supervise subcontractors, laborers, and other workers to ensure adherence to project timelines, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Ensure proper equipment, tools, and materials are available and used effectively on-site.
- Monitor daily construction activities and adjust resources and schedules as needed.
- Collaborate with the project manager and other team members to ensure the construction project is completed according to plans and specifications.
- Track the progress of the project, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met.
- Review blueprints, construction plans, and schedules to ensure work is completed in line with specifications.
- Assist in managing logistics, including material delivery and equipment rental.
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed on the job site, minimizing risk and preventing accidents.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, tool‑box talks, and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
- Monitor site conditions, including weather, and adjust work processes to avoid delays or safety hazards.
- Conduct inspections to ensure the work is completed meets the required quality standards.
- Coordinate with the quality control team to perform testing and resolve any issues related to construction materials or workmanship.
- Document and address any discrepancies or deficiencies in work performed.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are properly maintained and available when needed.
- Provide regular updates to the Superintendent, project managers, and clients regarding progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Maintain documentation of construction progress, daily logs, and work performed.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., engineering, procurement) to ensure alignment of project goals and timelines.
- Assist in maintaining accurate project records, including change orders, daily reports, and site logs.
- Prepare reports on construction progress and provide necessary information to the Superintendent for meetings.
- Ensure proper documentation is maintained for compliance purposes.
- Assist the Superintendent in resolving on-site issues, including unforeseen delays, conflicts, or technical challenges.
- Communicate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure issues are resolved quickly and efficiently.
- Identify potential problems early and work to mitigate risks before they affect the schedule.
- Education
:
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Relevant certifications or trade school experience may also be considered. - Experience
:
Minimum of 2 years in construction management or supervision, with experience in commercial, residential, or industrial construction projects.
- Understanding construction processes, blueprints, and project management.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Proficient in using construction management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other project tracking tools.
- In‑depth knowledge of OSHA and safety regulations.
- Work primarily on construction sites, with exposure to varying weather conditions and potential hazards.
- Work hours may vary, with occasional evening or weekend hours required to meet project deadlines.
- Travel may be required based on the project location.
- Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including walking on uneven surfaces and exposure to noise and dust.
