2nd Shift Repair Welder – Great Lakes Operation, Flint, Michigan.

ResponsibilitiesAs a Repair Welder, you will set up and weld pipe repairs required to meet structural pipe standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Set up and operate flux-core wire welding machines for the repair rack.
- Strike (form) arc, manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining arc length and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
- Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
- Change out consumables such as gas bottles, sets to proper pressures, and wire.
- Set welder amps and volts to welding specification and set wire feeder speed accordingly.
- Perform self-examination of weld for bead size, proper surface finish, and compliance with specifications.
- Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
- Identify weld defects on pipe; identify areas requiring repair, either pre-marked by inspectors or via visual inspection.
- Position pipe on repair rack on rotators to facilitate the repair process.
- Perform preparatory work by grinding, gouging, or otherwise preparing pipe.
- Comply with all safety rules.
- Level I welder requires minimal supervision to accomplish essential functions.
- Maintain completion of repairs within or at the standard time for repairs.
- Successfully pass entry and all annual weld tests.
- Other duties may be assigned by management, including cross training and housekeeping.
- Pass a 3G weld test that includes carbon arc back gouging.
- Physically able to perform essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence.
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions.
- Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Read, write, and effectively communicate in English.
- AWS Certification.
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear regularly.
- Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl regularly.
- Occasionally reach with hands and arms, climb or balance.
- Lift and move up to 10 pounds regularly, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
