Position: Carpenter / Mechanical Technician

Build, Repair, and Maintain a Premier Ranch Property

Thompson Thrift is seeking an experienced Carpenter / Mechanical Technician to support construction, maintenance, and property improvement projects across a 1,000+ acre ranch. This hands‑on skilled trades position is ideal for an experienced professional with expertise in carpentry, mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical maintenance, and general construction who takes pride in delivering quality craftsmanship while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Working across a large rural property, you’ll help maintain and improve ranch facilities, equipment, utilities, and structures while partnering with property leadership and vendors to keep projects moving efficiently.

Your Role as a Carpenter / Mechanical Technician

As a Carpenter / Mechanical Technician, you’ll perform a wide variety of skilled carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance work that supports the operation and continuous improvement of a large ranch property. From repairing structures and maintaining building systems to coordinating materials and supporting renovation projects, you’ll play an essential role in preserving the quality, functionality, and appearance of the property.

You’ll collaborate closely with property leadership, vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to Thompson Thrift’s high standards of craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance work throughout ranch facilities and infrastructure.
  • Build, repair, install, and maintain structures including barns, decks, gates, pergolas, retaining walls, flooring, and other wood construction.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, plumbing systems, electrical components, lighting, pumps, irrigation systems, generators, HVAC equipment, and building utilities.
  • Support renovation and property improvement projects by completing framing, finish carpentry, repairs, custom woodwork, and other construction-related tasks.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure building systems and equipment remain safe and operational.
  • Coordinate the ordering, staging, and movement of materials, tools, and equipment across multiple work locations.
  • Maintain organized, clean, and safe job sites while following established safety procedures and company standards.
  • Communicate project status, repair needs, schedules, and maintenance activities with property leadership, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Assist with subcontractor coordination and help ensure work is completed according to quality, safety, and project expectations.
  • Inspect completed work to verify quality, code compliance, durability, and proper system operation.
  • Respond to changing maintenance priorities, seasonal property needs, and repair requests across the ranch.
Our Ideal Candidate for this Role Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands‑on experience in carpentry, construction, ranch or estate maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related skilled trade.
  • Experience as a Carpenter, Maintenance Technician, Facilities Technician, Ranch Maintenance Technician, Construction Professional, or similar role preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry, framing, decking, flooring, gates, retaining walls, and general construction methods.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC equipment, pumps, generators, irrigation systems, and building utilities.
  • Ability to diagnose problems, perform preventive maintenance, and complete repairs on a variety of building systems and equipment.
