The Bus Monitor is responsible to the driver in assisting with all duties including loading and unloading students, monitoring the safety of the students, and managing the behavior of all students aboard the bus.

• Promote a positive, caring climate that ensures all students follow the student handbook and code of conduct.
• Ensure all students are safe and following safety rules; standing and walking on the bus while it is moving is prohibited.
• Follow emergency procedures, including evacuating students as needed and administering first aid if necessary.
• Assist the driver with daily cleaning, closing windows, pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, and maintaining the bus.
• Report any damages and repairs on a daily basis.
• Assist the driver in preparing and collating reports for submission and maintaining an up‑to‑date route schedule.
• Maintain discipline on the bus, taking into account the special needs of students and whether behavior stems from handicapping conditions; document incidents, involved parties, and witnesses.
• Collaborate with the driver and report incidents to the Transportation Director if needed; fill out Discipline Conduct Form when required.
• Assign seats to students and keep them separated when necessary.
• Secure students who ride in child restraint seats and ensure they take their belongings when departing.
• Sit on the bus in a manner that allows observation and accessibility to all students, avoiding the front seats when students are aboard.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Attend all safety meetings and in‑service workshops; if a monitor must miss a meeting, obtain minutes, notes, and handouts from the transportation office.
• May not use any type of cellular device while students are on the bus.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
