Position Summary

The Student Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all aspects of pupil transportation services for the Wichita School District. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure transportation services are safe, efficient, reliable, and aligned with district expectations.

The Manager leads daily operations, ensures compliance with district policies and regulatory requirements, and upholds consistent service standards. This position provides leadership and guidance to staff, addresses service concerns, reviews incidents, and implements improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and overall departmental performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily transportation operations, including scheduling, dispatch, payroll, customer service, and staff supervision to ensure safe, efficient service delivery.
  • Serve as liaison between the company, school districts, and community partners, resolving employee and customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate office personnel and drivers; maintain accurate employee records, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Monitor attendance, performance, and training requirements; provide coaching, corrective action, and performance feedback as needed.
  • Manage safety and risk processes, including accident response, incident investigations, video review, and insurance claims coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards through ongoing training, orientations, and in-service programs.
  • Oversee fleet operations, including preventative maintenance scheduling, vehicle inspections, vendor coordination, and invoice approval.
  • Maintain facility and grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and professional operating environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in a job-related field,
  • Three (3) years of experience in student transportation, fleet management, logistics, or a related operational field.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation operations, scheduling, dispatch, and fleet maintenance practices.
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office Skills, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record review
Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Work environment may include exposure to vehicle traffic and moderate noise levels in transportation yards or maintenance facilities.
