  • 40-hour workweek, 100% classroom-based with K-2 students

You've invested years building deep expertise in structured literacy. Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction. You can identify a student's miscue and pinpoint the precise phonemic gap to address. You can construct a phonics lesson from scratch, without needing a scripted program. That's your baseline. It's not what sets you apart. What sets you apart is that six-year-olds get excited when you enter the room.

At Alpha, this position is a Guide role first: a dynamic, engaging presence children are eager to work with. Your structured-literacy credentials open the door; your capacity to captivate a K-2 classroom during a 20-minute workshop is what secures the offer. If "dynamic, engaging presence" doesn't describe you, this role isn't the right fit. Alpha has reimagined traditional instruction. Students progress through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications — no lectures, no textbooks, no district pacing calendars.

Your position represents the one area where a human expert cannot be replaced. You create small-group reading workshops informed by live student performance data, and you facilitate motivation sessions that propel 100% of students toward their weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification). Your initial months focus on building rapport with the classroom. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective.

Student satisfaction metrics and "love your Guide" survey results (target 90%+) provide direct measurement. As you establish credibility, your responsibilities expand: analyzing AI-generated performance data to refine upcoming instruction, communicating fluency improvements and decoding progress to parents, and influencing how Alpha's K-2 reading methodology develops alongside adaptive technology. As Alpha opens new campuses, your work becomes the blueprint for reading instruction across the network.

Prior to hiring, you'll submit a brief video presenting an engaging story for young children, and you'll participate in a full-day campus visit working directly with K-2 students. Low energy with children will disqualify you, regardless of credential strength. This is intentional.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Creating and facilitating small-group K-2 reading workshops rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent), informed by live student data
  • Facilitating daily motivation sessions that propel 100% of students to reach their weekly adaptive-app targets, leveraging Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification)
  • Conducting and evaluating running records, fluency probes, and decoding assessments to monitor progress and refine upcoming instruction
  • Analyzing AI-generated performance data from Alpha's adaptive learning platforms to differentiate instruction dynamically, not only during pre-planning
  • Serving as the approachable, energetic adult your K-2 students are excited to see each day
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted program, or district pacing calendar; you create your own lessons informed by student data
  • Delivering lectures to a full classroom; all instruction occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive apps
  • Serving as a reading consultant, teacher coach, or district-level specialist; you are classroom-based with children every day
  • Managing a traditional classroom schedule — subject-by-subject lectures, homework review, test preparation; your scheduled blocks consist of workshops, motivation sessions, and data-driven small groups
  • Assessing homework or producing report cards; student progress is captured in app data…
