Job Description Coordinates and delivers both interpretation (oral) and translation (written) services for individuals with limited English proficiency across all Intermountain Health facilities and virtual services.

Position Details
  • Full‑time position at Park City Hospital.
  • Shifts include weekdays, weekends, holidays, and graveyards.
Essential Functions
  • Interpret medical and general information with highest accuracy and completeness in consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation modes for patients, families, and staff.
  • Interpret complex medical information, demonstrating expert knowledge of medical terminology and the healthcare system.
  • Acts as a cultural mediator; renders unbiased interpretation for accurate exchange of information in the proper cultural context.
  • Adheres to the National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Healthcare Interpreters and regulatory requirements (HIPAA, Title VI, Title III, Section 1557).
  • Manages time productively; responds to requests promptly and provides staff with estimated time of arrival.
  • Uses computer and electronic tools for research, data entry, and communication; maintains accurate and complete records of all interpretation events.
  • Translates written material into one or more languages, maintaining meaning, context, and localization; completes assignments on time.

Required Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a pre‑hire skills assessment.
  • Excellent oral and written command of source and target languages at "Professional Proficiency" or Level 3 ILR scale, including specialized healthcare terminology.
  • Proficiency in consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
  • Strong prioritization and multi‑tasking skills.
  • Interpersonal verbal and written communication skills; flexibility and good judgment for independent work.
  • Certificate of completion of a 40‑hour Professional Medical Interpreter course.
Alternate Consideration

Candidates who do not meet the 40‑hour course requirement may be considered if they

  • Hold an interpreting certification in another field (e.g., court).
  • Hold a college degree in translation or the working language.
  • Have at least 2 years of experience as a professional interpreter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of experience working as an interpreter in healthcare settings.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interpretation, Translation, Languages, or Communications.
  • National certification as a Healthcare or Medical Interpreter (CCHI or NBCMI) or State Certified Medical Language Interpreter License (DOPL).
  • Completion of a college‑level medical terminology course.
  • Knowledge of EPIC.
Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, documents, monitors, and equipment; assess customer needs.
  • Frequent verbal communication with providers, colleagues, patients, and visitors; quickly and accurately understand spoken information.
  • Manual dexterity for manipulating complex supplies and equipment; regular computer use.
  • For roles requiring driving: must be able to sit, see, and read signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
