Position: Instructional Supervisor | (10 month)

Summary

The Instructional Supervisor provides strategic leadership, oversight, and coordination of instructional special education programs to support student learning and growth. This position ensures the effective implementation of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI), curriculum alignment, instructional practices, and program compliance. The Instructional Supervisor serves as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and Individual Service Plan (ISP) meetings in accordance with state and federal special education regulations.

They are responsible for the supervision, professional development, and evaluation of teaching assistants, as well as the support and evaluation of other assigned program staff. The Instructional Supervisor provides oversight for programming serving students with disabilities in private/parochial schools, emphasizing instructional excellence, staff development, and cross‑departmental collaboration to ensure equitable access to rigorous, individualized learning experiences for all students.

Directly Supervises

  • Staff serving students in non‑public, parentally‑placed programs
Performance Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Director of Special Education in accordance with District 207’s administrative evaluation procedures and aligned with district priorities for student services, instruction, and compliance.

Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1, school psychologist, speech language pathologist, or social work endorsement required.
  • Administrative endorsement (General Administrative, Principal, or Teacher Leader) required.
  • Completion of Illinois Performance Evaluation Growth Through Learning training modules (PERA‑qualified).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in special education or related instructional leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI), co‑teaching, and inclusive practices.
  • Understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and Illinois School Code related to special education and private/parochial service provision.
  • Demonstrated skill in curriculum design, instructional coaching, and data‑informed decision‑making.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Supervision
  • Supervise teaching assistants, providing guidance on accommodations and modifications, independence, instructional and behavioral support.
  • Collaborate with building Department Chairs to ensure curricular alignment and consistent instructional implementation.
  • Monitor and support Teaching Assistant performance, utilization, and scheduling across programs.
  • Coordinate staffing needs and classroom assignments for Teaching Assistants supporting special education instructional classrooms.
IEP and Compliance Leadership
  • Serve as the LEA representative for IEP re‑evaluations and annual review meetings.
  • Oversee compliance with IDEA, state regulations, and district policies for assigned programs.
