Dietary Aide

SUMMARY

The Dietary Aide is responsible for aiding all food functions as directed or instructed and in accordance with established food policies and procedures.

• Review, prepare and serve meals in accordance with planned menus, standardized recipes and special diet orders. Prepare and serve residents’ nutritional bedtime snacks and substitute foods for residents who refuse foods served. Ensure all food preparation follows sanitary regulations.
• Maintain a clean and safe department by ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are ready. Ensure the facility’s infection control precautions are followed during daily tasks.
• Perform dishwashing and cleaning procedures, making utensils and other supplies available for the next meal.
• Prepare and deliver snacks and other items as instructed. Deliver food carts and trays to designated areas. Serve food and drinks in the dining room as instructed. Sweep and mop floors in the kitchen/dishroom as directed by the supervisor.
• Perform dishwashing duties.

• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Must maintain the care and use of supplies and equipment, keep work areas clean and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties.
• Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, and be willing to handle residents according to their current level of functioning.
• Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing food practices.
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

• Move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Possess sight and hearing senses, or use prosthetics that allow these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
• Pull, push, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
• Assistance may be required in relocating residents during emergency situations.
