SummaryThis new Residential Faculty position is scheduled to begin August 2026. Implements, manages and instructs a diverse student population in the Construction Management (C.M.) program using innovative teaching and learning techniques. Approximately 1/3 of the C.M. students transfer to ASU, NAU or other four-year institutions. Advises students, maintains office hours, assists with registration. The major requirement is to teach a minimum load of 15 up to 25 load each fall and spring semesters.
Since the C.M. program is a true 2 + 2 curriculum we are obligated to use a consistent curriculum (textbooks, syllabus, outcomes etc.). Curriculum development is another large component of the assignment using traditional and innovative methods of instruction on the campus Learning Management System, Canvas. Maintains professional competence, and participates in professional activities, such as the construction advisory committee, recruitment efforts, and career/job fair.
Assists in the development of budgets, orders equipment and supplies. Develops and maintains strong relationships with national and local business partners. Continual and active recruitment a new student and participates in the placement of C.M. graduates with employers.
- May teach the engineering material science courses that require equations and knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, vectors and higher-level math skills.
- Instructs a diverse population of students in classroom and laboratory settings.
- Develops written syllabi, course outlines, and instructional materials for teaching coursework.
- Successfully navigates the college learning management system (LMS) Canvas.
- Evaluates students' knowledge and performance of the subject matter, monitors academic performance, prepares and grades exams, and maintains laboratories and related equipment; maintains academic support hours to assist and advise students.
- Promotes the construction management program by recruiting students and mentoring faculty on curriculum and program updates; ensures teaching remains current and effective by attending conferences, courses, seminars, and workshops.
- Participates in the academic life of the college by engaging in district-wide and campus committees, activities, and events.
- Maintains a strong understanding of the Maricopa County Community College District's broad range of software systems, including Canvas, scheduling (Ad Astra), financial (FMS), student information system (SIS) to name a few.
- Posts in Canvas and maintains the required academic support hours and days on campus for student engagement.
- Taches in-person and on-campus classes as needed, along with other modalities (online, internet, hybrid) with the equivalent of 15 load per semester; may also be required to work a modified schedule including Fridays, weekends, and mini-camps during school breaks.
- Continual learning through attendance at professional development activities such as conferences, courses, seminars, and workshops.
The Occupational Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:
- Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
- Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor’s degree or higher OR
- A Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field OR
- A Journeyman certification in the field to be taught
- Previous teaching experience at a university, community college, college, accredited technical institution of higher learning
- Degree discipline in construction management, applied engineering science, architecture or technical education
- Previous experience offering the different teaching modalities including in person, hybrid, online via computer, online only on your own time
- Experience teaching estimating, statics, dynamics, and heavy equipment, construction management methods, and surveying
- Experience with course and curriculum development
- Experience with delivering courses electronically via Zoom, Webex, or Google Meet
