Park Description

This work unit exists to manage St. Vrain State Park within the guidelines of Colorado State statutes, regulations, and Division of Parks and Wildlife policy and procedures for the use and benefit of over 250,000 visitors which utilize the area annually. This unit provides a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities to the public, while working to ensure that safety and high quality standards are met.

It maintains and improves visitor facilities, park infrastructure and natural resources within the park. This unit is responsible for providing visitor services, maintenance functions, natural resource protection, natural resource education, administrative functions, law enforcement, inter‑agency cooperation and assisting with statewide programs. The work unit administers State Park Programs within the district, and provides recreation and natural resource management expertise to Federal, State, County, Local and Private entities.

Position Overview

This position will ensure visitor safety and resource protection in State Park by managing 2 or more major operational sections of the park (Volunteer Program and Education/Interpretation will be the two major operational areas of responsibility at time of hire, but may change to include, but not be limited to: Revenue, Office front desk, Entrance stations, Campground/Reservations, and trail maintenance). The position will also manage 1 or more minor sections such as signs, capacity, hunting, trails, visitation, water augmentation monitoring and accounting and other duties as assigned.

Areas of responsibility required to complete these operations include planning work strategies, park policies and procedures, managing temporary employees (hiring, scheduling, terminating), maintaining a safe recreational environment as well as performing and overseeing some or all daily operational tasks. The position will be assigned one or more operational sections of the park to manage budgets, employees and operations. There is an expected general maintenance component to this position including janitorial, buildings, grounds and project maintenance.

This position also exists to address unforeseen issues, duties, problems, etc. that the visitors, staff, park, or agency may encounter. The position may take on assigned responsibilities beyond the scope and boundaries of St. Vrain State Park.
