COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE – Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.
Recognizing that 90% of Coloradans routinely access trails in Colorado, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Divisions’ (CPW) Trails Program serves all trail interests in Colorado including riding, hiking, equestrian, hunting, fishing, and persons with special needs in its efforts to connect parks, federal lands and other trail systems into a statewide trails network. The program provides $9‑15 million annually to local, state, tribal, and federal governmental agencies;
recreation and school districts; and nonprofit organizations. In addition to funding, the program provides training, education, planning and technical assistance to promote the creation and stewardship of a statewide system of trails.
- Coordinate with the CPW, the DNR accounting staff, governmental political subdivisions, non‑profit organizations and volunteer groups in administering the motorized trails program funding allocations. Promote the trails program statewide, review grant proposals, prepare contracts, monitor funded projects, recommend policies and procedures to improve the grant application, project tracking and completion processes, provide technical assistance to applicants and grantees, and implement program requirements and rules.
- Support the STC and PWC funding decisions and implement agency decisions.
- Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Grant oversight, management, and project audits; purchasing and contract management; inspections and reports; funding allocation and budget management;
State Trails Committee and Grant Review Subcommittee meetings; outreach and representation.
- Principal administrator of the snowmobile grant application, ranking and selection processes, contract development, project execution, monitoring milestones, completion and contract closeout for approximately 50 open and active grant contracts annually.
- Develop grant application requirements annually and assist with adoption of fiscal management policies.
- Review grant applications to verify program requirements and NEPA compliance; assist with reviewer selection, scoring, and develop recommendations on award decisions.
- Assist with the Off‑highway Vehicle grant program, primary contact for nonprofit grants.
- Initial contact for all snowmobile trails grant program changes, including scope and performance period modifications.
