Overnight Intermediate Ward Veterinary Technician

Welcome to Animal Emergency & Specialty Center (AESC)! We are a 24/7 Emergency Care Veterinary Hospital with 7 different Specialties. We are looking for an Intermediate Ward Technician to join our team. This role involves caring for stable hospitalized patients, helping with assessments, treatments, and diagnostics under a veterinarian’s guidance. The ideal candidate will work closely with doctors, technicians, and assistants to make sure each patient gets the care they need, and will communicate any concerns as they come up.

Compensation
  • $25- $35 depending on experience
  • +$3.00/ per hour shift differential for hours worked between 6pm-6am

  • Full Time
    • Monday - Thursday
    • 10pm-8am
About the Role

The Intermediate Ward Technician’s primary responsibility is to provide care for the hospitalized patients that are deemed stable according to the veterinarian’s evaluation and AESC
’s defined levels of hospitalization. This individual will assess patients and facilitate treatments under the direction of the supervising veterinarian. They will have excellent communication with the supervising veterinarian and address concerns with the patients as they arise. The Intermediate Ward Technician is expected to work with all doctors, technicians, and assistants to perform diagnostics and execute treatment plans for the hospitalized patient.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provides excellent patient care to every hospitalized patient.
  • Assist veterinarians with exams, treatments and procedures that need to be done.
  • Perform standard technician duties including patient restraint, venipuncture, SQ Fluids, radiographs, medication administration as ordered by a veterinarian, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications by veterinarian orders.
  • Collaborate with all departments across the hospital to ensure that all patients receive the best possible patient care.
  • Immediately respond to and assist with STAT calls and follow the appropriate patient care protocols.
  • Maintain accurate paperless medical records utilizing Ezy Vet and Smartflow.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of medical and financial practices, including creating estimates and discussing with the owners, collecting payment, and discharging patients.
  • Demonstrate compassion and care in all interactions.
  • Attending department and staff meetings.
  • Contribute to the overall needs, cleanliness, and organization of the hospital.
  • Perform sedation and anesthesia according to established hospital protocols (induction, maintenance, monitoring and recovery).
  • Other duties as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • At least 1 year of Veterinary Technician experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Colorado Registered Veterinary Technician or the ability to become registered upon hire
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 Veterinary Technician experience in an Emergency or Specialty Practice
