Description Of JobPosition Title: Client Care Aide II – Bruce McCandless Veterans Home
Bruce McCandless State Veterans Community Living Center is a state‑owned and operated skilled nursing facility dedicated to honoring and respecting residents through individualized care and a comfortable, safe environment.
Job Type: Full‑time, in‑person, essential services. Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required.
PrimaryJob Duties
- Provide direct resident care and assist with activities of daily living.
- Arrange and adapt personal care items (food, clothing, equipment).
- Gently guide residents in self‑care activities.
- Pre‑train new CNAs on facility policies, procedures, and routines.
- Serve as a resource to CNAs I for care of resistive residents.
- Adjust care plans based on resident condition changes.
- Assist required residents with eating and drinking (cutting food, adding thickening agents, cueing swallowing techniques).
- Document food and fluid intake on hydration flow sheets.
- Recommend dietary changes for specific residents.
- Organize daily work to ensure timely care delivery.
- Monitor residents’ whereabouts, interactions, and conditions; refer to charge nurse when necessary.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to exchange resident care information and evaluate the effectiveness of care plans.
- Document observations and care provided in resident records.
- Deliver lab specimens and transport residents to appointments or hospitals using a state vehicle.
- Maintain education by attending mandatory and non‑mandatory in‑services and workshops.
- High school diploma or GED AND one year of related experience.
- Valid Colorado CNA license upon entry.
- Skill in initiating, performing, and completing resident care duties.
- Good verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
- Professional conduct and confidentiality at all times.
- Effective problem‑solving skills.
- Long‑term care experience highly desirable.
- Knowledge of resident care best practices and ability to teach peers.
- Recognize urgent situations and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Understanding of quality standards, procedures, and protocols.
- Ability to work with residents of varying abilities and collaborate across units.
- Full background check, license verification, drug screen, and other screening as required.
- State of Colorado residency required at application and during employment.
- Disciplinary history disclosures required for former state employees.
