PositionLead & Non‑Lead Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Laboratory Technician at 6060 Broadway, Denver. Conduct laboratory analysis and microscopy for mollusks, crayfish, macrophytes, zooplankton, phytoplankton, and water quality. Work hours are 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with a maximum of 40 hours per week; overtime is granted only in special circumstances.
LeadSpecific Duties
- Serve as the primary communicator between lab staff and the Early Detection & Rapid Response (EDRR) Specialist.
- Ensure lab staff follow all procedures outlined in the State Invasive Species Program ANS Laboratory Manual.
- Maintain the ANS Laboratory’s equipment and supplies, reporting any issues directly to the EDRR Specialist.
- Perform data entry and technical report writing.
- Enter and verify the accuracy of data in the Sampling and Monitoring Data Management System and other data management systems.
- Promote respectful teamwork and manage conflicts when needed.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must possess a current and valid driver’s license required for operating a state vehicle and an acceptable driving record.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite).
- Ability to follow strict scientific protocols and perform repetitive work.
- Ability to record data accurately and identify discrepancies.
- B.S. in natural resources, botany, fisheries, wildlife, or completed coursework toward a degree in a related field.
- Leadership experience, especially for the Lead Lab Technician.
- Taxonomic expertise of aquatic species (aquatic plants, mollusks, crayfish, zooplankton, phytoplankton, algae, diatoms).
- Experience conducting microscopy, laboratory analysis, data entry, technical writing, statistical analysis, and ArcGIS software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
