Supervision Received Works under general supervision of the Wastewater & Collections Supervisor and Wastewater & Collections Lead Operators.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Some duties may include, but are not limited to:
Laboratory & Water Quality Monitoring Collect wastewater, reclaimed water, and process control samples from treatment facilities and field locations.
Perform routine laboratory analyses in accordance with established procedures and quality assurance standards.
Prepare samples, standards, reagents, and laboratory equipment for testing.
Conduct routine instrument calibration and performance checks.
Record, review, and validate laboratory data for accuracy and completeness.
Enter laboratory results into electronic databases and tracking systems.
Assist with maintaining laboratory records.
Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and safety practices.
Operations Training & Plant Support Upon completion of daily laboratory assignments, work alongside certified wastewater operators.
Participate in operational rounds and observe process control strategies used to maintain permit compliance.
Assist with routine maintenance, housekeeping, and plant improvement projects.
Facility Support Maintain sampling equipment and laboratory supplies.
Clean and organize laboratory and operational work areas.
Clean algae and debris from secondary clarifier weirs as needed.
Assist with general housekeeping and maintenance activities throughout the facility.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification/Experience Minimum of a High School diploma or GED.Previous experience with laboratory techniques preferred (knowledge of PPE, use of balance, pipetting, glassware).Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with a Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to the District’s insurance company.
Working Conditions/Physical Activities Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day workweek. May be subject to overtime on an as-needed basis to work within the department and for other duties as assigned.
Work is performed on construction sites, in office situations, and at a wastewater treatment facility where noise, irritants, dust, dirt, bacteria, hazardous chemicals/air/materials and fumes are present. May come into contact with raw wastewater.
Work may take place outside in all weather conditions. May be exposed to risks typically associated with working around water, chemicals, electricity and other man-made and natural hazards.
Full range of body movements including stooping, twisting, kneeling, bending, leaning, reaching, climbing (heights), stretching and working in awkward positions. May stand for extended periods of time.
Physical effort required by handling objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.
Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment, read, record and interpret information. Must be able to communicate with other employees and the public.
