Construction Carpenter II

Overview

Carpenters are required to perform a variety of tasks including erecting and setting forms for vertical and horizontal concrete structures and site work, per specifications and drawings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Perform Journeyman level Carpentry work
• Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc. to perform tasks accurately
• Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform tasks accurately
• Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates
• Set and place forms to proper elevations and location, prepare the base and install proper reinforcing
• Experience in setting and erecting forms using a wide variety of materials and forming systems for vertical and horizontal concrete forming
• Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials; shape materials to prescribed measurements and assemble, fastening with nails, dowel pins or glue
• Verify accuracy of structures with plumb bob and carpenter’s level
• Perform general carpentry tasks such as building and installing barricades, decks, shelves, and other site needs
• Know how to form and finish walls, footers, grade beams, etc
• Lay out and properly build and place embeds, anchor bolts, etc.
• Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete
• Assist in placing/tying rebar
• Assist in placing and finishing concrete
• Disassemble, remove, and clean form materials
• Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level
• Work with other crafts as directed by supervision and take direction from higher skilled workers or foreman
• Basic knowledge of construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction
• Support project with other tasks as directed by supervision
• A Master Journeyman must be able to direct a small crew and/or mentor Journeyman and Helpers

• 4 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
• NCCER Certification/License (preferred)
• Minimum 4 years of experience in Journeyman level role

• Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations
• Participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors
• Set a personal example of safe behavior
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
• Ability to perform arithmetic operations and unit conversions as required
• Common sense and ability to carry out written or oral instructions
• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow procedures
• Other duties as assigned

• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions
• Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs; push, pull, lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb
• Stamina to perform tasks repetitively for extended periods
• Uncontrolled environmental conditions with changing weather and site conditions
• Exposure to elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, and noise
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; work at heights with fall protection
• Visual and auditory abilities to perform tasks safely and effectively
• Coordinate use of eyes, hands, and feet

This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements.

Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the project site with intermittent travel to residence of record.
