Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-9. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As An Accountant, You Will- Assume responsibility for preparation and entry of accounting transactions into subsidiary ledgers as well as the Summary Debt Accounting System (SDAS) for accurate and timely reporting of financial activity related to savings securities.
- Assist internal and external auditors during reviews and audits by locating source documents and answering questions.
- Research and resolve inconsistencies in accounting transactions reported for savings security processing adjustments.
- Assume responsibility for specific reconcilements, reports, or ledgers.
- Recommend methods and procedures, which would enhance accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency in processing work within both computerized and manual accounting systems.
All newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary (or trial) period. Specialized ExperienceSpecialized experience for the GS-09 is defined as one year of experience at the GS-07 level, or equivalent that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this grade must include ALL of the following:
- Operating, maintaining, or monitoring financial management systems; AND
- Researching and analyzing accounting documents and problems.
