Description:

Common patient diagnoses include post-heart catheterizations, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and arrhythmias. Registered Nurses must be skilled in reading telemetry strips and are expected to be involved in patient admissions and discharges. Patient Care Technicians support the unit, with a goal of 1:8 ratios but can flex as needed.
Teamwork is essential, and everyone assists each other. Discharges and admissions occur frequently, averaging 8-12 per day. While charge nurses are available, they may take on patient assignments, especially during night shifts. Floating to other areas within the facility may occur, but RNs will only care for patients within their skillset. Appropriate scrub color is royal blue, and scrub jackets, if worn, must be actual scrub jackets.
