Position: Supervisory Social Worker - Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP)

Summary

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is actively recruiting for a Supervisory Social Worker within the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). The incumbent assumes the supervisory and administrative responsibility for the management of the assigned social workers who function within mental health clinics located at any VA Northeast Ohio facility. The position location may be negotiable.

Qualifications
  • United States Citizenship:
    Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • English Language Proficiency – must be proficient in basic written and spoken English per 38 U.S.C. 7402(d)
  • Master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
  • Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited
  • A doctoral degree in Social Work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree

  • Licensed or certified by a state to practice social work at the advanced practice level (including advanced generalist or clinical examination) and able to provide supervision for Ohio licensure
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS‑11 grade level, demonstrating advanced practice skills in a specialty area or administration
  • Possession of a nationally recognized post‑master's certification or equivalent supervised professional experience
  • Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and capable of providing supervision for licensure
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities: ability to independently organize work and set priorities; knowledge of supervisory duties, clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation, and quality improvement; ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services; ability to provide staff training and development; skill in interpersonal relationships
  • Physical requirements:

    lifting and carrying light objects under 15 pounds; walking for up to two hours; correctable vision, hearing, and basic color discrimination; rapid mental and muscular coordination; current unrestricted driver's license
Duties
  • Supervises a group of employees at various GS levels, providing administrative, technical, and clinical supervision
  • Performs administrative and personnel management functions relative to staff supervised, including establishing performance expectations, evaluating performance, providing feedback, developing work improvement plans, advising and counseling, and enforcing disciplinary measures when appropriate
  • Assures subordinates are trained and fully comply with safety regulations
  • Exercises supervisor authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment, review, and personnel management
  • Provides technical assistance to state, local, and private agencies, universities, and other agencies, including program analysis, development, review, research, design, coordination, monitoring, assessment, and implementation of various programs
  • Work schedule:

    8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Monday through Friday). Telework:
    Ad‑Hoc Virtual – this is not a virtual position
