Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Project Engineering group works on designing new pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro‑mechanical products for various Aerospace customers and platforms, including reusable commercial launch vehicles, deep space missions, military aircraft, and hypersonic missiles. Must meet customer design, functional, material, and test requirements and cost targets established during proposal stage.

Responsibilities
  • Review and assess compliance with the customer's component and sub‑level specifications; coordinate with other disciplines as needed.
  • Record and distribute compliance data to Contracts Administrator and Program Manager.
  • Design and perform analysis of product components or major assemblies in accordance with customer requirements, including electronics mechanical packaging for high‑reliability environments, control systems, component stress, thermal analysis, and mechanical stress.
  • Coordinate creation of preliminary bill of materials in the business system and verify its accuracy.
  • Create development test requirements, test instructions, and release drawings for development hardware and supporting test equipment.
  • Provide detailed requirement outlines to Documentation Control for creation of test procedures (DVT, ATP, QTP), verification matrix, materials list, and analysis reports.
  • Maintain ongoing surveillance of customer‑driven changes, providing written notification and impact assessment.
  • Provide engineering support (analysis/design/specifications) to other departments, subcontractors, and suppliers working on the program.
  • Provide technical and priority direction to designers and drafters; ensure accuracy of all drawings and documents.
  • Take responsibility for NCR activities and MRB authority to disposition discrepant hardware.
  • Determine and prepare PDR/CDR technical and schedule items.
  • Assist in resource and priority determination for projects.
  • Meet drawing release dates and coordinate CDRL items with Documentation Control.
  • Coordinate test instructions and drawings for development testing with engineering lab technicians.
  • Communicate technical and schedule problems to Engineering Manager, Contracts Administrator, and Program Manager.
  • Perform or coordinate all required design‑level and customer‑required analyses.
  • Chair internal reviews of designs and subsequent changes to drawings.
  • Integrate customer and other discipline comments into drawings promptly.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 3‑10 years of relevant experience in high‑technology electro‑mechanical environments within Aerospace and Military industries.
  • Subject‑matter expertise in related products and technologies.
  • Familiarity with government contractual procurement procedures, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interactions at all organizational levels.
  • High computer literacy, including MS Office and applicable engineering systems.
  • Expert knowledge of fluid controls, control systems, structural or thermal analysis, and/or software related to these products.
  • Experience in best practices of development, production, and maintenance of these products, systems, or software code.
  • U.S. Citizen.
