OverviewThe Director of Supply Chain is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the end‑to‑end supply chain, planning and materials for the Naval Systems business unit. The role involves strategic planning, procurement, logistics, inventory management, and supplier relationships to ensure the reliable and timely delivery of products to defense clients, while maintaining compliance with military and government regulations. The Director works closely with the Planning Manager on the master production schedule, manages material from planning to product shipment, and reports to the Senior Director of Naval Systems.
EssentialJob Functions and Responsibilities Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
- Develop and manage sourcing strategies for high‑specification industrial valves and associated components
- Negotiate contracts with qualified vendors, ensuring compliance with defense regulations (e.g., ITAR, DFARS)
- Evaluate supplier performance and maintain a reliable network of defense‑compliant suppliers
- Execute broad based strategies to leverage direct material spend via LTAs/ IDIQs with suppliers mitigating direct material escalation and reducing material cost baseline
- Institute dual sourcing strategies where applicable to mitigate supply chain risks
- Participate in make versus buy reviews in concert with operations leader
- Lead supplier summits to foster engagement and collaboration with the supply base
- Creates tools to assess supplier capacity to determine production risk
- Lead and develop the supply chain team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
- Prepare and manage direct material/department budgets, forecasts, and reports related to supply chain activities
- Develop an integrated suite of supply chain performance metrics and identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and risk mitigation while looking for opportunities to integrate into Tableau
- Institute best practices for vendor POs such as delivery scheduling to minimize working capital impact, advantageous payment terms, and other clauses to ensure supplier performance
- Create and manage demand forecasts in coordination with engineering, sales, and production
- Oversee inventory management, material planning (MRP), and just‑in‑time delivery strategies
- Lead supply chain risk assessments and develop contingency plans
- Work with planning function to assess supply chain risk and actively mitigate the risks within three‑time planning horizon by expediting where applicable
- Coordinate the physical movement and storage of goods, including transportation routes, warehouse functions, and inbound/outbound logistics
- Generate and manage accurate forecasts. Provide Monthly, Quarterly, and yearly revenue forecasts.
- Deep understanding of defense procurement processes, military standards, and regulatory compliance (ITAR, FAR, DFARS, etc.)
- Ensure supply chain processes align with industry regulations, ISO standards, and government contract requirements
- Coordinate with quality assurance to manage incoming inspections and supplier audits
- DFARs experience at a government level, not at a contractor level
- Stays updated on laws and regulations pertaining to procurement practices
- Keeping abreast of changes in government regulations, particularly those affecting procurement, accounting, and other areas related to government contracts
- Developing and implementing compliance program
- Creating and maintaining policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with government requirements
- Assessing compliance risks
- Identifying potential areas of non‑compliance and developing strategies to mitigate those risks
- Conducting compliance audits
Reviewing internal processes and procedures to ensure they are in line with government regulations - Reporting violations
- Reporting any compliance issues or violations to the appropriate government authorities
