Director R&D Procurement – Clinical Supply Responsibilities
- Partner with Clinical Supply and R&D leaders to align procurement strategies with business priorities, portfolio needs, and long-term objectives.
- Lead category strategy development, prioritization, and multi-year roadmaps across clinical supply categories.
- Serve as Procurement category expert, providing strategic insights and recommendations.
- Develop category productivity roadmaps to optimize cost, improve supplier performance, reduce risk, and create measurable value.
- Use spend analytics, supplier insights, benchmarking, and market intelligence to guide decisions.
- Establish value plans, performance measures, and reporting to demonstrate outcomes.
- Develop strategic supplier relationship strategies (segmentation, governance, performance expectations, executive engagement).
- Maintain market intelligence across CROs, FSP/FSO models, central labs, biometrics providers, and clinical technology providers.
- Lead, coach, and direct category managers and sourcing professionals; build scalable category management practices and governance.
- Ensure category strategies translate into effective sourcing approaches and commercial outcomes across Legal, Finance, Quality, Regulatory, and business stakeholders; balance cost, quality, speed, flexibility, innovation, compliance, sustainability, and resilience.
- 10+ years in procurement/category management/strategic sourcing/supplier relationship management (clinical supply, R&D, life sciences/pharma/biotech or regulated environments preferred).
- Experience developing category strategies, productivity initiatives, and business partnerships in global complex organizations.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical/clinical development operating models, outsourcing strategies, supplier ecosystems, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and deliver measurable value.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Master’s with 8+ years relevant experience, or Bachelor’s with 10+ years relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years people leadership or significant matrix leadership.
- Clinical supply category experience (CROs, FSP/FSO, central labs, biometrics, clinical tech, patient recruitment).
- Experience building category management capabilities and supplier governance/operating models.
- Experience with global R&D organizations and procurement technologies/analytics/digital capabilities.
