Job Description
Parsons are seeking a skilled Field Engineer – Pavement (Airfield) to support the execution and supervision of airfield pavement works on a major airport runway development project. This role focuses on the construction, quality control, and coordination of flexible and rigid pavement systems, ensuring compliance with aviation authority standards, approved drawings, and project specifications.
The ideal candidate will have 8 years of experience in pavement engineering, preferably within airport, airfield, or large-scale transportation infrastructure projects.
What You'll Be Doing- Supervise on-site pavement construction activities including subgrade preparation, base and sub-base layers, asphalt paving, and concrete pavement works.
- Ensure runway, taxiway, and apron pavements are constructed in accordance with approved drawings, method statements, and technical specifications.
- Monitor paving operations, layer thickness, compaction, temperatures, and finishing tolerances.
- Coordinate with QA/QC teams and laboratories for field and laboratory testing including density, gradation, asphalt content, concrete strength, and smoothness.
- Verify compliance with ICAO / FAA / local aviation authority pavement requirements.
- Identify quality issues, NCRs, and support implementation of corrective actions.
- Coordinate with survey teams to verify horizontal and vertical alignments, crossfalls, slopes, and tolerances for airfield pavements.
- Assist in verification of levels, profiles, and as-built data.
- Liaise with construction, planning, QA/QC, and HSE teams to ensure sequencing and productivity of pavement works.
- Prepare daily progress reports, technical records, and inspection documentation.
- Support resolution of technical queries, RFIs, and construction challenges.
- Ensure pavement activities comply with approved HSE plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Work in compliance with airside safety rules, FOD control, and permit-to-work systems.
- Support safe operations within restricted airfield environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 8 pavement engineering or site supervision.
- Proven experience in runway, taxiway, apron, or highway pavement works is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of asphalt and concrete pavement construction, materials, and testing procedures.
- Familiarity with (ICAO, FAA, AASHTO, ASTM).
- Ability to interpret pavement drawings, specifications, and method statements.
- Proficient in MS Office and basic reporting tools.
- Strong coordination, analytical, and communication skills.
- Experience on active or operational airfields.
- Knowledge of pavement management systems and smoothness requirements (IRI).
- Familiarity with plant operations such as asphalt batching plants and pavers.
- Experience with document management systems such as Aconex or similar.
- Airside Driving Permit (ADP) or eligibility to obtain one is an advantage.
