Position Overview
Prepares all products for shipment and minimizes the chance of transit damage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Read and interpret a tape measure within 1/16th of an inch.
- Use a saw or shear to cut wood to size.
- Retrieve and replenish necessary materials and parts to ensure organized production.
- Operate a forklift and/or crane.
- Operate automatic nail and staple guns.
- Wrap products by hand or with an automatic wrapping machine.
- Operate shipping computer(s) and related software.
- Build pallets to secure products during shipment.
- Other duties may be assigned.
High school education preferred. At least one year of shipping experience is preferred.
Language SkillsRead and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Mathematical SkillsCalculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as regular, consistent, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends as required by union contract. Work as part of a team, including all related departments/plants or independently as required to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction.
Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally sit and talk or hear. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WorkEnvironment
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, frequently to vibration, occasionally to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Noise level is usually loud.
