Sequoyah School seeks a dynamic educator to teach in its expressive and collaborative Arts program through a new filmmaking course. This faculty member will inspire students to explore visual storytelling, cinematic history, and technical production, through hands‑on, student‑centered learning. The ideal candidate will support student voice, foster creative risk‑taking, and contribute to a vibrant learning community grounded in Sequoyah’s mission.

The part‑time faculty position responsibilities include:

  • Teach 1 section of a high school Filmmaking course (covering introductory through narrative production)
  • Guide students through all stages of the creative process, including screenwriting, storyboarding, cinematography, and post‑production editing
  • Manage and maintain the school’s filmmaking equipment inventory, cameras, lighting/audio gear, and digital editing software
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to showcase their work, such as community screenings, assemblies, or external student film festivals
  • Attend relevant department meetings and professional development days

Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and must have experience teaching filmmaking, video production, or digital media arts. A bachelor’s degree in Film Production, Cinema Studies, Media Arts, or a related field is required; an MFA or master’s degree is preferred.

Successful candidates will also have the following qualifications:

  • Technical proficiency with DSLR/cinema cameras, lighting kits, sound recording equipment, and industry‑standard non‑linear editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or DaVinci Resolve)
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion, and teaching from an inclusive, anti‑racist standpoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit
  • Demonstrated interest in inquiry‑based, experiential, project‑based learning, and competency‑based assessment
  • A portfolio of personal work and student work
