Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus, Pasadena, California

Mayfield Senior School, an independent Catholic girls’ high school, seeks a mission-driven, dynamic, and student-centered Spanish Language Teacher for the  school year.

Position Overview

Rooted in the Holy Child commitment to educating the “whole child” and the goal of launching young women for success, Mayfield Senior seeks an experienced Spanish educator with strong content knowledge in Spanish, pedagogical expertise, and a deep understanding of how students learn best in today’s World Language classrooms.

This teacher will inspire curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking while fostering a classroom community rooted in respect, collaboration, and intellectual engagement. The teacher will also be an integral member of the school community, contributing fully to the life of the school. Typical responsibilities include teaching four or five sections of Spanish Language (which may include honors and/or AP-level courses) along with other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Model and promote the mission, values, and Holy Child charism of the school
  • Create and deliver engaging and robust Spanish curricula in a secondary school context.
  • Teach a range of courses that may include college-preparatory, honors, and/or AP Spanish Language and Culture across all grade levels, 9th to 12th
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and resources, and encourage collaborative work in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully.
  • Develop and implement varied assessment tools to perform both formative and summative assessment; consistently and effectively evaluate student progress.
  • Embrace educational technology and curricular innovation, integrating new tools and methods to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Respond thoughtfully to individual learning needs with a student-centered approach.
  • Value and embrace diversity and inclusive educational practices.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment by practicing a positive approach to classroom management.
  • Collaborate well with colleagues on curriculum alignment and instructional practices
  • Invest in the life of the school by participating in the advisory program, department, grade-level, faculty, and staff meetings, and all aspects that support the student experience.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required for events and program activities
  • On-campus presence required except during school breaks
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to advance disciplinary expertise, inclusive, effective, and relevant teaching practices.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in Spanish or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience; independent school and/or girls school experience preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, administrators, and families.
  • Reflect the school’s mission and core values as a Holy Child school.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in education.
  • Experience with differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Strong classroom management skills with an emphasis on student engagement and positive reinforcement.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and digital learning tools.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 20–25 lbs
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during events and student activities
  • Ability to supervise students in varied environments (classrooms, outdoor settings)
Salary & Benefits
  • Annual salary range: $64,100 - $82,500, commensurate with experience and qualifications, aligned with Mayfield’s salary scale
