Part-Time position, generally weekdays 2:30-6:15 pm August 17-June 9

The Polytechnic Extended Program (PEP) co-creates a space where students practice the skills needed to be contributing members of our school community and the world. PEP serves this purpose by providing directed activities and unstructured time with trained and caring staff members. PEP operates daily after-school programs as well as occasional special event or full-day support. A PEP staff member works within a dedicated and collaborative team to provide student supervision and ensure the safety of all community members.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise children and create a quality program
    • Actively engage students in positive activities
    • Encourage individuality and creativity in students
    • Assist students with conflict resolution
    • Foster an inclusive, creative, and engaging environment grounded in care for young learners.
    • Encourage understanding and sensitivity to students’ surroundings
    • Encourage respect for individuals and their differences
    • Set and maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Identify and meet students’ needs
    • Make meaningful connections with a growing variety of students
    • Be sensitive to and guide students through changing and strong emotions

      Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving
    • Develop opportunities for interaction between students and staff
    • Provide opportunities for students so that each individual experiences success
    • Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns
    • Help each participant meet the goals established by the program for student development
  • Carry out PEP programs
    • Help prepare and close the program area(s) each day
    • Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of common program areas
    • Guide students towards successful participation in all activities
    • Carry out established roles in enforcing safety regulations
    • Plan, prepare, and implement scheduled activities as assigned
    • Instruct students in emergency procedures
    • Help students plan their participation in special events and activities
    • Assist in teaching or leading an activity, as assigned
  • Fulfill other staff administrative roles
    • Prepare for and actively participates in staff training and meetings
    • Encourage respect for personal property, school equipment, and facilities
    • Maintain good public relations with students' parents, school personnel and general public
  • Model kindness and empathy alongside leadership and collaboration
  • Communicate information appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude
  • Follow directions, reason logically
