Job Opportunity

We are looking for an intermediate‑level Civil/Hydrologic and Hydraulic Engineer to join our hydropower and dams group within the energy business line in Southern California (Pasadena, Irvine, or San Diego offices). The successful candidate will work on a variety of dam, hydropower, conveyance tunnel, and water resource projects, collaborating with engineers, geologists, and other professionals to deliver feasibility studies, detailed design, construction support, and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform civil, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineering analyses and modeling for dam, hydroelectric, and other energy‑related projects, including dam breach and inundation, intake structure, and spillway analysis.
  • Use HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS (1D and 2D), Life Sim, FLO2D, and other modeling tools to conduct hydrologic and hydraulic studies.
  • Develop engineering designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and construction drawings for spillways, drop chutes, energy dissipation, and other hydraulic structures.
  • Assist in feasibility studies by researching issues and developing technical solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, field reports, memoranda, feasibility reports, design reports, and construction drawings.
  • Create basic quantity and cost estimates.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including shop drawing review, submittals, RFI responses, site observation reports, and contract administration tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with safe work practices and company guidelines.
  • Lead and coordinate tasks from initiation to completion, working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Follow regulatory agency requirements, technical standards, and industry guidelines.
  • Attend project coordination meetings and implement Stantec quality control and quality assurance processes.
  • Mentor, coach, and train less experienced professionals as required.
  • Develop client management and business development skills, including proposal preparation.
  • Participate in professional development and training activities.
Capabilities & Credentials
  • Knowledge of civil/hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with CAD drafting and spatial analysis tools such as Civil3D and ArcGIS.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Detail‑oriented organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to coordinate tasks with multiple individuals on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for construction quality oversight.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; off‑road driving may be required.
Education & Experience
  • 5–10 years of experience in civil/hydrologic and hydraulic engineering; dam experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university (required). Master’s degree with a focus in hydrology and hydraulics is preferred.
  • California Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain one within 1 year of employment.
Additional Information

Hybrid work schedule possible; travel to project sites may be required.
