Overview
The Amazon Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) is a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians on a mission to develop a fault‑tolerant quantum computer.
PositionQuantum Applied Scientist – Device and Architecture Theory
As a member of the Device and Architecture Theory team, you will focus on the theory and modeling of our superconducting qubit processors. You will collaborate with measurement, design, and calibration teams to interpret experimental data, inform new processor designs, and optimize device performance. You will conduct path‑finding research to guide the development of next‑generation processors, with an emphasis on device‑level physics, novel qubits and gate schemes, and implementations of error‑correcting codes.
Key Responsibilities- Develop theoretical and numerical models of superconducting qubit processors, working across theory, measurement, design, and calibration teams to validate predictions and translate modeling insights into device improvements.
- Conduct path‑finding research on novel qubit designs, gate schemes, and processor architectures to push the performance of next‑generation devices.
- Communicate scientific findings across CQC and, when appropriate, share results externally via conference presentations and publications in scientific journals.
- Stay abreast of new research developments in the field of quantum computation.
- Experience in patents or publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals.
- Currently pursuing, or has obtained, a Ph.D. in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or an equivalent field.
- A demonstrated track record of original, impactful research in quantum physics (e.g., quantum computing, communication, sensing, condensed matter, atomic, molecular, and optical physics).
- Experience successfully delivering on projects as part of a cross‑team collaboration.
- Proficiency in a scientific programming environment.
- Expertise in superconducting circuits, cavity/circuit QED, quantum optics, or open quantum systems.
- Familiarity with quantum error correction and fault‑tolerant logic.
- Experience with theoretical and numerical modeling of multi‑qubit quantum processors or many‑body quantum systems.
- Experience working directly with experimental data or supporting an experimental collaboration.
- Expertise in numerical methods and experience with high‑performance computing.
