System Safety Engineer, Subject Matter Expert

Location:

Pasadena, California. This position focuses on system safety requirements and safety hazard analyses for various projects.

• Evaluate hardware and software to ensure mission success.
• Develop and update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR).
• Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and other safety review meetings.
• Support the development and updating of System Safety documents to meet customer, range safety, and contractual requirements.
• Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements.
• Coordinate with test range safety teams and write range safety reports to support testing.
• Assist in developing and maintaining a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) to document real and potential hazards and their mitigation strategies.
• Potentially support various software safety activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

• US citizenship required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 10+ years of recent and related experience.
• Active Top‑Secret security clearance.
• Experience working in systems safety working groups (SSWG, WSESRB, SSSTRP, etc.).
• Experience building and communicating a safety case for redesign or risk acceptance.
• Requirements management and development experience, including DOORS and/or CRADL.
• Ability to interface with customer and program management.

• Onsite; some travel may be required.
• Schedules may change based on position and customer needs.

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods (≈90% of the time) and lift and carry up to 25 lbs. (≈5% of the time).
• Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
