Microwave Design Engineer, Amazon Center Quantum Computing

Overview

This position is for an Applied Scientist specializing in the design of microwave components for cryogenic environments at the Amazon Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA. The researcher will design and validate microwave signal conditioning hardware at cryogenic temperatures for Amazon quantum processors, working with cross‑functional teams of scientists and engineers.

• Collaborate across diverse teams to deliver state‑of‑the‑art, cost‑effective solutions for signal conditioning of quantum processor systems at cryogenic temperatures.
• Develop requirements with system stakeholders including quantum device, test and measurement, hardware, and theory teams.
• Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative solutions that meet performance and cost metrics.
• Research enabling technologies for commercial viability in quantum computing.
• Participate in requirements, design, and test reviews.
• Work cross‑functionally to help drive decisions using technical background and skill set.
• Define and maintain standards for operational excellence.
• Work in a high‑paced, startup‑like environment with resources to innovate quickly.

• Master’s degree or above in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics, or equivalent.
• Competent in the use of microwave test equipment and automated test development.
• 4+ years of direct experience in designing cryogenic microwave components and systems.
• Proficient in microwave and mechanical CAD software, including HPADS, HFSS, MWO, Altium, COMSOL, and SOLIDWORKS.
• Familiarity with design for manufacturability, machining tolerances, materials, and capabilities.

• PhD in electrical engineering or applied physics.
• Experience designing parametric amplifiers.
• Proficiency in operating dilution refrigerators.
