Description
The Amazon Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA is hiring a Fabrication R&D Scientist with experience in semiconductor process development. The role supports Amazon’s goal of delivering cloud quantum computing services. The scientist will work in a multi‑disciplinary team, collaborate on new ideas, and advance next‑generation quantum processors inside and outside the cleanroom.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and optimize processes to fabricate high‑coherence superconducting qubits.
- Create advanced 3‑D interconnect and routing technologies for superconducting quantum devices.
- Analyze inline metrology and electrical test data and maintain integration documentation, design rules, and SOPs.
- Provide technical guidance to junior colleagues and foster a collaborative environment.
- Interact with project leads to continually improve processes and drive innovation.
Develop novel micro‑/nanofabrication techniques inside the cleanroom, collaborate with scientists and engineers, plan experiments, analyze data, and conceptualize future innovations.
Basic Qualifications- PhD in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated track record of original, impactful work in nanofabrication, MEMS, or 2.5/3D integration.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate across teams of varying technical skill levels.
- Strong problem‑solving, analytical, written, verbal, and data presentation skills.
- 2+ years of process integration experience in a 200/300mm foundry environment (preferably in R&D).
- Hands‑on experience with manufacturing execution systems, electron beam lithography, photolithography, wafer‑level wet/dry etching, wafer cleaning and lift‑off, thin‑film deposition, metrology, electroplating, wafer thinning, CMP, bonding, and flip‑chip packaging.
- Familiarity with superconducting quantum computing components, fabrication, and packaging techniques.
- Experience with failure analysis, root‑cause investigation, yield monitoring, and statistical process control.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Julia, MATLAB, or similar).
- Proficiency in statistical data analysis, process optimization, and DOE using JMP or Minitab.

CompensationSalary range: $142,800 – $193,200 per year (U.S. CA, Pasadena). Additional compensation includes sign‑on payments, RSUs, health insurance, 401(k) matching, PTO, parental leave, and other benefits.
