We’re looking for current PhD students with a passion for robotic research and applications to join us as Robotics Applied Scientist II Intern/Co‑ops in 2026 to shape the future of robotics and automation at an unprecedented scale across Amazon’s Robotics teams.

We seek students who specialise in one or more of the research areas in robotics such as robotics manipulation, autonomous mobile robots, movement, autonomous navigation, motion/path planning, controls, perception, sensing, robot learning, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, large language models, human‑robot interaction, robotics simulation, optimisation and related fields.

Robotics Applied Scientist II Intern/Co‑Operation (2026)

This role offers internships of 3 to 6+ months with year‑round start dates (winter, spring, summer, fall) across multiple locations. Interns will work full‑time (40 hours per week) in person at the assigned office. Interns must be eligible for and available for full‑time internship and have at least one quarter/semester/trimester remaining after the internship ends.

Basic Qualifications
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
  • Eligible for and available for a full‑time (40 hours per week) internship in person at the assigned office for the whole duration of the internship/co‑op
  • At least one year of relevant academic research or industry experience within Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Optimisation, Manipulation, Perception, Motion Planning and Controls, Movement, Autonomous Navigation, Path Planning, or related fields
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related languages
Preferred Qualifications
  • Publication(s) at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals
  • Ability to develop system prototypes
  • Demonstrated ability to work on collaborative and cross‑functional teams
  • Drive to see a project through from research concept to working prototype
  • Strong algorithm development experience
  • A working knowledge of analysis of algorithms and computational complexity
  • Familiarity with state‑of‑the‑art algorithms in your field of expertise
  • Excellent creative problem‑solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
Benefits and Compensation
  • Starting pay varies by location (e.g., 142,800 to 193,200 USD annually in CA/USA, 171,600 to 222,200 USD annually in Sunnyvale, etc.)
  • Full‑time internship structure; 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday between 8 am–5 pm, full office attendance expected
