Quantum Hardware Engineer, Amazon's Center Quantum Computing, Device Team

Overview

Amazon's Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA, is hiring a Hardware Development Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team of experimental and theoretical physicists, materials scientists, and hardware and software engineers working at the forefront of quantum computing. The role requires a robust background in physics or engineering, excellent problem‑solving and communication skills, effective team collaboration, and day‑to‑day scripting proficiency. Practical laboratory experience and a solid grasp of experimental techniques and instrumentation are essential.

• Coordinate with cross‑functional stakeholders to support accelerated learning initiatives.
• Execute scientific measurements under established test standards with meticulous attention to detail.
• Create clear and accurate documentation of experimental procedures and results.
• Streamline system integration, optimize throughput, and autonomously maintain assigned instruments.
• Build, run, and debug automated measurement sequences.

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent.
• Knowledge of a scripting language such as Python or R.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.
• Familiarity with measurement tools and devices such as oscilloscopes or frequency analyzers.

• Experience working in a fast‑paced, team environment.
• Experience with cryogenic systems.

Base salary range: $ – $ USD annually. The compensation package may also include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
