System Safety Engineer, Subject Matter Expert

Location:

Pasadena, California. This position focuses on system safety requirements and safety hazard analyses.

• Evaluate hardware and software to ensure mission success.
• Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHAs), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR).
• Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings.
• Support the development and updating of System Safety documents to meet customer, range safety, and contractual requirements.
• Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements.
• Coordinate with test range safety teams and prepare range safety reports to support testing.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) to document real and potential hazards and their mitigation strategies.
• Potentially support various software safety activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• US citizenship is required due to the sensitivity of customer‑related information.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 10+ years of recent and related work experience.
• Active Top‑Secret security clearance.
• Experience working in systems safety working groups (SSWG, WSESRB, SSSTRP, etc.).
• Experience building and communicating a safety case for re‑design/risk acceptance.
• Requirements management and development experience, including DOORS and/or CRADL.
• Ability to interface with customer and program management.

• Position is located onsite; some travel may be required.
• Schedules are subject to change based on position and customer needs.

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

• Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
• Organized with good time‑management skills, capable of working outside normal schedule and adjusting to peak periods and surge requirements.
• Generally office environment, but tasks may involve inside or outside work.
• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
• Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.

$160,000 - $175,000/yr. Salary will depend on education and experience.
