The Spacecraft Environmental Requirements Engineer will support various projects located in Pasadena, California as part of the NASA/JPL MASS contract.
The position will support the JPL Project Lead overseeing a team of dynamics, thermal, EMC/EMI and natural space engineers to verify that all flight hardware is fully compatible with all anticipated mission environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform thermal and structural analyses of electronic hardware designs.
- Support program/project design reviews.
- Determine component temperatures for a variety of environments and assess random vibration fatigue life.
- Review technical analyses submitted to JPL programs/projects.
- Support environmental test programs including EMC/EMI, vibrations, shock analysis and other appropriate tests on hardware.
- Interact extensively with project personnel and test engineers.
- Define and document the project environmental verification program consistent with the Mission Assurance Plan.
- Prepare and manage risks inherent in the accomplishment of the environmental verification program.
- Maintain and track status using an online Mission Assurance database.
- Interact extensively with project personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.

- This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
- Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering or science
- Requires 15+ years of experience in structural, thermal or dynamic environmental requirements, analysis and testing.
- Requires wide range of experience and advanced knowledge in mission environmental requirements or environmental requirements verification compliance.
- Knowledge of EMC/EMI environments including magnetics, internal and external spacecraft charging is required.
- Complete knowledge of industry practices and standards across a range of applications related to environments requirements definition, testing standards and testing effectiveness.
- Experience working with highly complex environmental assurance programs and some capability in thermal and structural design and analysis software such as Thermal Synthesizer System (TSS), ANSYS, COSMOS, Thermal Analyzer System (TAS), and Solid Works or equivalent.
- Ability to work system tasks and communicate with multiple interfaces is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience, including technical writing and reports.
- Experience reviewing technical reports and analyses, including project requirements and specifications documentation.
- Background in environmental requirements engineering and testing.
- Demonstrated capability in writing clear and detailed reports, discrepancy documentation, and nonconformance records.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, including supporting peers, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a positive work environment.
- This position is located onsite and offers a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off; some travel may be required.
- Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.

- Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
- Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
