Position: Senior Financial Analyst - Finance - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)

The Senior Financial Analyst assists in all decision support functions as well as the annual operating and capital budget processes using a high level of problem solving skills and customer service responsiveness. In addition, the analyst maintains and enhances the functionality of budgeting, cost accounting and decision support systems, including system implementation and development of cost accounting standards. The analyst reviews and analyzes financial information for complex, difficult, and varied management needs, compiling data from multiple information systems and exercising judgment to ensure accuracy and applicability.

The role performs complex financial reporting and analyses to support business and financial short- and long-term planning. Assignments include highly specialized projects requiring advanced knowledge of specific financial areas, as well as broader analyses of financial activities. Responsibilities also cover data collection, analysis, and reporting of clinical, quality, and financial information including CFTE calculation and productivity benchmarking. Key aspects include collaborating with management on financial and clinical analysis, designing and generating standardized patient‑level reports, performing trend analysis, and maintaining portions of the clinic information structure in multiple systems.

Duties
  • Coordinates, organizes, and completes strategic and complex finance or business projects, identifying and extracting data, evaluating, interpreting, analyzing, and summarizing findings.
  • Presents results formally to senior management.
  • Pulls data from a variety of source systems and uses critical thinking skills to analyze the data.
  • Develops and maintains portions of clinic information structure in multiple systems.
  • Provides input and guidance to other team members, proactively identifying opportunities and working on moderately complex projects.
  • Produces regular and ad‑hoc financial and operating reports.
  • Evaluates and analyzes reports and data.
  • Prepares and analyzes periodic management reporting of financial results for assigned functional areas.
  • Develops conclusions and recommendations and communicates orally or in writing to management.
  • Monitors financial operations for ambulatory care clinics.
  • Identifies problems or trends, evaluates solutions, researches and prepares variance analysis and explanations.
  • Seeks resolution or brings issues to the attention of senior management.
  • Reviews existing accounting, reporting, and data management systems and methods for adequacy; performs balance sheet account reconciliations, account analysis, accrual calculations, and related accounting documents/schedules.
  • Contributes to the development and/or modification of financial systems and applications to enhance reporting and information capabilities.
  • Identifies and proposes corrective actions, process improvements, or solutions to improve organizational performance.
  • Performs special projects to improve process efficiency and performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Three years of financial analysis and reporting experience with knowledge of computer simulation and forecasting techniques.
  • Ability to perform a variety of financial activities including planning, analysis, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to present financial information and models concisely and comprehensibly.
  • Working knowledge of financial strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Detail‑oriented and able to perform in a high‑pressure environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP, Oracle, or related financial systems.
  • Familiarity with financial concepts, in‑depth knowledge of medical terminology, and ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); must obtain within 30 days if not already held and maintain thereafter.

The annual base salary range for this position is $95,680.00 – $. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
