Position Summary
The Accountant is responsible for preserving the foundation’s financial integrity by accurately maintaining financial records by validating, reconciling and recording transactions in the general ledger. This role ensures timely financial reporting, is responsible for accounts payable and receivable, and supports investment and grant-related financial processes. The Accountant plays a key role in maintaining compliance with financial best practices and regulatory requirements while supporting the foundation’s mission.
Key Responsibilities- Complete month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial processes, including preparing journal entries, bank recs and roll forward schedules.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for senior management, including Charitable Distribution Target Report.
- Support the preparation of foundation financial statements and reports for the Board.
- Process and manage accounts payable for all payments including grants, ensuring payments are timely, accurate and applied to the correct accounts and funds.
- Reconcile Foundation credit card monthly.
- Prepare cash requirement reports.
- Maintain vendor records and ensure compliance with internal approval processes.
- Assist in the annual audit process and preparation of required schedules and documentation.
- Assist in preparation of financial data for tax returns.
- Work with tax team to calculate quarterly estimated tax payments and process payments.
- Maintain financial controls and support regulatory compliance efforts.
- Monitor, record and reconcile monthly, quarterly, and annual investment activity and statements.
- Maintain investment schedules, including cost basis and roll-forward reports.
- Process and track program-related investment payments.
- Work with the finance team to improve financial processes and reporting efficiency.
- Assist in technology-driven improvements for financial tracking and reporting.
- Support the Director of Accounting & Finance with other ad hoc assignments as needed to meet evolving organizational priorities.
- 3-6 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a nonprofit or foundation setting.
- Experience with investment accounting and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced spreadsheet skills.
- Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and accuracy.
- Undergraduate degree in accounting or business administration.
