Overview
Do you enjoy solving challenging problems and driving innovations in research? As a Research Science intern with the Quantum Algorithms Team at CQC, you will work alongside global experts to develop novel quantum algorithms, evaluate prospective applications of fault-tolerant quantum computers, and strengthen the long-term value proposition of quantum computing.
A strong candidate will have experience applying methods of mathematical and numerical analysis to assess the performance of quantum algorithms and establish their advantage over classical algorithms.
This is not a remote internship opportunity.
Responsibilities- Apply methods of mathematical and numerical analysis to evaluate the performance of quantum algorithms and establish their advantage over classical algorithms.
- Explore subareas related to quantum algorithms, including quantum chemistry, many-body physics, quantum machine learning, cryptography, optimization theory, quantum complexity theory, quantum error correction & fault tolerance, quantum sensing, and scientific computing.
- Work with the Quantum Algorithms Team to contribute to research, development, and evaluation of prospective applications for fault-tolerant quantum computers.
- Engage with resources such as state-of-the-art computing infrastructure, research papers, and mentorship from experienced researchers to sharpen technical skills and cultivate critical thinking and effective communication in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

About the teamAmazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) is a multi-disciplinary team of theoretical and experimental physicists, materials scientists, and hardware and software engineers on a mission to develop a fault-tolerant quantum computer.
Qualifications- Enrolled in a PhD program in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics, or an equivalent quantitative field
- 18 years of age or older
- Work 40 hours/week minimum and commit to a 12-week internship maximum
- Ability to relocate to the internship location
- Expertise in a subarea of quantum algorithms or a related topic in theoretical quantum information science
- Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python, or similar scripting language
- Interest in staying abreast of new research developments in quantum computation

The starting pay for this position is listed below. Final starting pay will be based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
