Buyer II – Quantum Hardware, Procurement, Amazon Center for Quantum Computing

Amazon’s Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) in Pasadena, CA, is seeking a Buyer II experienced in fast‑paced research and development procurement to support delivering cloud quantum computing services worldwide. The role requires independently managing procurement workflows, designing long‑term solutions with limited guidance, and communicating with multiple stakeholders, including Finance, Global Trade Compliance, and Legal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the procure‑to‑pay lifecycle, including negotiating cost on RFI/RFPs, PO creation, vendor onboarding, invoice reconciliation, and contract negotiations, while designing long‑term solutions with limited guidance.
  • Lead procurement for RFPs/RFIs, contract negotiations, purchase order creations, BPO and other expenses, NDAs, vendor strategy, and collaboration with import/export teams.
  • Work closely with development and engineering teams both inside and outside Amazon to meet program milestones.
  • Define problems, influence cross‑functional teams, and communicate clearly with a large number of stakeholders, including presenting decisions to leaders up to three levels above.
  • Eager to learn and excel in fast‑paced prototyping environments.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of procurement and financial tools such as Oracle, Jira, and Coupa.
  • Build metrics and present data insights.
  • Identify, suggest, and optimize process improvements to drive outputs, reduce cycle time, and enhance scalability.
  • Write clear documentation.
  • Mitigate immediate risks and decide when to handle versus escalating issues.
  • Manage time effectively and make trade‑offs between time, quality, and resources.
  • Mentor junior buyers and may participate in the recruitment process.
  • Facilitate dialogue by asking productive questions, providing recommendations, and fostering shared understanding to identify risks and meet business needs.
About the Team

Our team manages supply chain and procurement functions, including verifying NDAs, NRTL certifications, purchase order creation, expense reports, safety, and trade compliance. The team collaborates with research scientists to negotiate best prices and deliverables while pivoting priorities for quantum computing experiments.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, or 5+ years of supply chain experience.
  • Experience working across teams and influencing teams that are not your own.
  • Experience in a procurement organization performing vendor management, contract management, negotiating complex purchases, and bidding.
  • Experience with procurement systems such as Coupa or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Knowledge of general AI tools.
  • Experience in analyzing data to drive decisions.
  • Experience in trade compliance, customs operations, customs brokerage, supply chain, logistics, or similar.
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Suite with a willingness to learn proprietary systems.
  • Persuasive:
    Influences effectively, earns respect, and builds constructive relationships.
  • Manages multiple simultaneous projects, balancing communication, time management, and problem‑solving.
  • 5+ years of experience in procurement, shared services, BPO, program management, and invoice reconciliations.
  • Experienced in identifying and implementing process improvements.
Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $73,300.00 – $ USD annually. Your compensation will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
