Summary
The Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) is responsible for all departmental functions aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of PM Pediatrics. The role provides an opportunity for a pediatric LPN/LVN to apply their skills in a pediatric urgent care setting and assist with primary patient care based on individual patient needs within their scope of practice under the physician’s direct supervision.
This position maintains effective working relationships with all customers, including patients/families, physicians, employees, volunteers, and vendors.
- Provider clinical and administrative support for providers, patients, and office operations.
- Obtain medical history, patient vital signs, intake, and prioritize patient care.
- Perform procedures (venipuncture, IV insertion, urinary straight catheterization), administer medications (oral, rectal, IM, and IV), and assist the physician with total patient care within the scope of practice.
- Remain knowledgeable in pediatric pharmacology.
- Assist with patient care within the scope of practice, including positioning and comfort during x‑ray procedures.
- Perform monthly quality control checks in the office and assist in performing quality control testing in the lab.
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and ensure proper sterilization tools and equipment as required.
- Practice standard safety practices and precautions.
- Help patients in distress by responding to emergencies and promptly notifying physician.
- Establish effective rapport with clients, families, other employees, and physicians.
- Maintain operations by following policies and procedures; report needed changes to management.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
- Protect patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Update knowledge by participating in continuing education, professional organizations, and maintaining personal networks.
- Accept ownership for accomplishing new and challenging requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
- Assist patients with complaints and take an active role in service recovery when needed.
- Assist physician with efficiency metrics to improve urgent‑care flow and throughput (arrival to room, arrival to medication administration, disposition to discharge, discharge length of stay).
- Required pediatric experience (Pediatric ER, Pediatric hospital unit, or Pediatrics Urgent Care); preferred experience.
- Active state nursing license or active compact state licensure from the state of residence.
- Prior experience and competency with nursing procedures (IV placement, urinary straight catheterization, medication administration).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required;
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) recommended. - Knowledge of medical practice and terminology, clinic processes, and procedures.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
- Skill in rapid assessment of the critical presentation of the pediatric population.
- Ability to use sound reasoning, judgment, and to act calmly in emergencies.
- Effective verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
- Energetic, highly motivated, customer‑service focused, positive attitude, confidentiality, teamwork, and professionalism.
$28–$36 per hour. The salary/rate range listed here is a potential base salary/rate for this role; actual compensation may vary within this range depending on experience and location.
