Senior Safety Professional

The Senior Safety Professional assists in developing, implementing, and auditing safety policies to ensure regulatory compliance. This role supports safety programs at job sites, assists other safety professionals, and fosters a strong safety culture by interacting with field employees, management, and customers, providing oversight and technical advice on safety and injury prevention.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Facilitating training in-person, virtually, or as e-learning in collaboration with the Training Department.
• Training field leaders on their responsibilities in safety protocols, programs, and hazard identification.
• Building and maintaining strong internal relationships with field leadership and other team members to drive positive change and strengthen our safety culture.
• Preparing for and responding to natural disasters (building evacuation drills).
• Building and maintaining strong external relationships with clients, subcontractors, and industry & regulatory organizations.
• Assisting in injury management by tracking follow-ups and communicating as needed.
• Ensuring proper documentation is acquired in a timely manner and ensuring appropriate management of work-related injuries and proper care for injured employees.
• Assisting in developing and communicating site-specific safety plans and reviewing the plan to meet all customer requirements. Additionally, field engagements to ensure the site is following the site-specific safety plan.
• Responding to a safety incident in support and consultation.
• Conducting incident investigations for gathering and storing all necessary documentation.
• Coaching partners (e.g., field, shop, office) on safe practices and regulations.
• Managing internal and external safety inspections and audits, supporting job site hazard analysis, and ensuring that appropriate safety records are maintained.
• Reviewing serious injuries and incidents, analyzing corrective actions, and evaluating and recommending preventive measures.
• Identifying hazards and recommending controls. Developing strategies to control exposure to hazardous environments and ensuring that unsafe acts and conditions are corrected promptly.
• Assisting in the proper selection of safety-related equipment such as signage, relevant personal protective clothing, and equipment.
• Providing technical expertise and advice on safety, safety management, and compliance.
• Liaise with organizations and relevant authorities to help with requested documentation and follow-up protocols for audits and remedial actions (e.g., OSHA).
• Assisting with injury management by coordinating response, medical care, and return to work with the employee, supervisor, and Risk Management.
• Supporting and assisting with calling for a pause in work and leading a meeting to discuss safety issues and mitigation.
• Conducting research and developing statistical analyses to support management decision-making.
• Creating and maintaining evacuation plans, conducting drills, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Position requirements (work experience, skills, licenses, etc.) include:

• Basic knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques
• Familiar with Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations
• Familiar with construction operations
• Ability to voice professional opinions and concerns in a tactful, authentic, and approachable manner to field leadership and stakeholders.
• Ability to identify safety-related exposures and propose corrective actions
• Demonstrate elements of leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to build professional relationships
