The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
Project FocusPhotonics has become an enabling technology for a host of industrial and scientific applications that combine many optical components and functionalities into a miniaturized chip format. While the PICs developed in the last decade have enabled applications in the visible and near‑IR wavelength range, a range of scientific applications that benefit from availability of such chips at longer wavelengths has emerged.
This effort will target development of state‑of‑the‑art PICs and spectrometers on chip at long wavelength. The postdoctoral researcher will work on various aspects of this new development including design, device microfabrication, test and characterization, and integration into a spectrometer instrument.
- Design of photonic integrated circuits.
- Device microfabrication.
- Test and characterization.
- Integration into a spectrometer instrument.
- Recent Ph.D. in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
- Experience with photonic modeling, fabrication, and characterization of photonic components.
