Associate Scientist I of Biophysical Characterization & High-Throughput Screening

Work Arrangement: Fully onsite

Compensation: $95,500–$121,250 base salary, plus annual bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits

Bio Phase is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist I to support antibody discovery, engineering, and characterization activities across a preclinical biologics pipeline. This hands-on laboratory role will contribute to antibody screening and develop ability assessments through cell-based, flow cytometry, and biophysical assays that guide lead selection and project decisions.

The ideal candidate brings strong experimental execution and troubleshooting skills, along with interest or experience in automation, data analysis, laboratory informatics, and AI-assisted tools that improve assay workflows, data processing, visualization, and reporting.

What You’ll Do:
  • Support antibody discovery, engineering, and characterization through cell-based assays, multi-color flow cytometry, and plate-based develop ability assays
  • Execute, optimize, and troubleshoot high-throughput experimental workflows, including liquid-handling systems
  • Perform mammalian cell culture and support transient and stable cell-line generation
  • Conduct antibody screening assays, including binding, competition, reporter, and related cell-based screening assays
  • Analyze, interpret, document, and communicate experimental data clearly and promptly to cross-functional project teams
  • Help develop and streamline data analysis and reporting workflows using scripting, workflow automation, and laboratory informatics tools
  • Maintain accurate experimental records, data integrity, sample traceability, and documentation practices
  • Support routine laboratory operations, including instrument maintenance, reagent preparation, inventory management, and sample tracking
  • Follow all applicable Environmental Health & Safety, biosafety, and laboratory compliance procedures
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Cell Biology, Immunology, or a related discipline with 6+ years of relevant industry laboratory experience; or a Master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant industry laboratory experience. No PHD
  • Strong hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, transient and stable cell-line generation, and cell-based antibody screening assays
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-color flow cytometry and flow cytometry data analysis software, such as Flow Jo, OMIQ, or equivalent
  • Experience with high-throughput assay workflows and automated liquid-handling systems
  • Experience with scientific data analysis and visualization tools such as Benchling, Graph Pad Prism, Spotfire, or similar platforms
  • Strong ability to independently troubleshoot assays, optimize workflows, and generate reproducible, high-quality data
  • Excellent organizational, record-keeping, communication, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic research environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using scripting, data automation, or AI-assisted technologies to improve experimental data processing, visualization, and reporting
  • Experience with plate-based biochemical or develop ability assays, including polyreactivity ELISA, thermal stability, self-association, or related methods
  • Familiarity with laboratory informatics systems and automated data workflows
  • Experience supporting antibody discovery or biologics research programs
Laboratory & Safety Requirements:

This role may involve work with experimental specimens, potentially infectious materials, biological and chemical hazards, and laboratory equipment. Qualified candidates should have:

  • Knowledge of biosafety techniques, aseptic practices, and sterile laboratory procedures
  • Experience following EHS rules, biosafety guidelines, and laboratory safety standards
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
  • Experience handling and disposing of biohazardous materials appropriately
  • Familiarity with blood borne pathogens, infectious agents, chemical hazards, and animal allergens
  • Experience operating and maintaining common laboratory equipment, including microscopes, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, electrophoresis equipment, freezers, and incubators
  • Availability to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed to complete experiments

The expected base salary range for this position is $95,500–$121,250
. Actual compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate’s skills, education, experience, and qualifications.
