Sales Associates at Dunn‑Edwards deliver a distinctive shopping experience for both homeowners and professionals. Your responsibilities include demonstrating outstanding customer service and selling skills, continuously learning about the coatings industry, keeping the sales floor stocked with merchandise, organizing the sales floor and stock areas, and building trusted partnerships with our painting professionals.

Sales Associates interact with customers via phone and in‑person to offer expert advice, while also processing and completing transactions. They uphold Dunn‑Edwards store vision of fast and reliable service and ensure the store is well stocked and maintained. Continual learning through the Dunn‑Edwards Learning Network and various job certification programs supports answering questions, making proper recommendations, and building a foundation for potential advancement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Making a connection with customers, asking questions about their project, then giving options and advice to meet those needs
  • Ensuring product delivery meets Dunn‑Edwards and customer quality and service expectations
  • Conducting oneself in a professional manner, always acting as a positive extension of the Dunn‑Edwards brand
  • Efficiently taking customer orders through email, phone, or in‑person, and processing them through point‑of‑sale
  • Adhering to company safety standards at all times
  • Cleaning and maintaining all store areas and equipment as assigned
  • Assisting with maintaining proper merchandise inventory levels
  • Communicating clearly both written and verbal
  • Stocking and merchandising products according to planogram
  • Meeting expectations of core competencies related to the position: customer focus, attention to detail, problem solving, initiative, and teamwork
  • Additional duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job does not have supervisory responsibilities. There are no subordinate supervisors reporting to this job.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Four years of high school completion with a diploma or GED equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups; read and write English for safety purposes.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; use whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs; operate a point of sales system and complete cash transactions with financial accuracy.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization, and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

This job requires general computer knowledge, mathematical experience, and customer service skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Store and outside sales positions may require lifting of items such as sundries or containers of paint weighing from 5 to 75 pounds; use of electronic equipment including computers, point‑of‑sale devices, and communication devices; driving a large delivery truck or vehicle; climbing ladders; walking on uneven surfaces, such as active construction sites; interactions with customers face‑to‑face and on the telephone; interaction concerning color;

standing for long periods; and use of a respirator.
